On Friday evening, Diana is sitting at the balcony with her eyes wide open staring at the gate to whether the school bus which is supposed to deliver her only son home is expected. However, the sun was setting and there are no signs that Dennis her only son would show up anytime soon. She starts to lack patience calls the bus driver who informs her that Dennis had already been brought to the gate an hour ago. Dennis has never failed to show up home after school any other day and Diana still had a strong believe that he was somewhere and he would come out soon. Several women came in to help Dian a figure out the whereabouts of her son. She used the stairs to come down to the parking area.
On reaching the gate she notices that her son’s school bag hang on one of the gate and people had already gathered to trying to understand what was happening. Inside the bag, Diana notices that part from Dennis having books which were disorderly arranged, there were 5 bananas which were not ripe but it seemed like they were almost. They had green stalks to indicate that the bananas were left to ripen naturally. They looked as though they had been forced. It was their culture that if any member of the society got lost, her parents would rush to the community doctor to seek guidance on what to do. It was almost 8pm and the boy was nowhere to be seen. Diana had never supported the idea of visited the community medicine man and she fought him at different times in the past She doubted whether show would get true help from this man.
When she remembered her childhood experiences in the hands of the same medicine man, she decided to leave without reason. She already knew that at the end of the day that the people near her were not doing anything to help her. From her worried state, she decides to vanish into the darkness to go get her son back from the community spirits. According to her culture, the gods knew that Dennis was going to take the bananas that were forced to ripen using carbide and he would eventually develop stomach issues. It is therefore clear that they would take and keep him safe. However his mother was so worried that she didn’t believe that she would finally be able to overcome the situation. Her husband who is driver at a local agency of tourists was keen to arrive home before 9pm and sit on the cough waiting for anyone to come and light up his world. It was becoming hard to accept that the son could not be seen anywhere and the medicine men were unable to unravel what was happening. The search continued for 3 days.
Many stories went across area with everyone trying to explain what would have happened to the young one. His father remained calm and as he left for job that morning he said that he believe that the gods were in the process of bringing back the child. Diana was already used to such promises and felt tired about what the entire issue. She decided to leave for home and told her friends that she would return tomorrow to continue with the search. When she arrived home she noticed that every sign showed that her husband was home. She called out his name but no one answered. She found all clothes that he wore that morning on the bed. The gods were also I the house because she felt unusual power holding her. When she got to the bedroom where Dennis used to sleep he was there fast asleep, he looked tired. She woke him up and he mentioned that he was okay and that he left his father on that other side of the river working with other men. There was no river nearby and this simply meant that the father had also been taken by the gods. The best thing is that they still held onto the hope that he would still come back. That hope is what kept Diana moving despite the challenges.
