Assignment WK 6

Hi Jamie,
I also chose to pursue an advance degree in psychiatric-mental health. I have a passion to work with children and military veterans with mental health illnesses, so that is my reason for pursing a degree in PMHNP. I have researched other NP programs, such as gerontology, and I still desire to become a PMHNP. Also, the specialty is in a high demand and has been in high demand for several years (Wiesen, 2022). My first RN position was as a behavioral health nurse for patients not guilty by reason of insanity, and now I work with children that have mental illnesses. I really enjoy what I am doing. It is good you have good time management skills because they help you make the most of each hour and you get a sense of control over your day (Walden University, n.d.). Best wishes in the program.
Hello Jamie, I have also worked as a RN in a behavioral health field for over 10 years. I think that when entering this type of specialty, it really does benefit both the practitioner and the patient to have the experience and knowledge of psychiatric nursing. I can also agree with you that balancing full-time curriculum, work, and personal life is challenging. I chose to attend Walden University after extensive research into different Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner programs as their programs are, built for working nurses (Walden University, n.d.).
I agree that the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), is a great organization to join for nurse practitioners in this specialty. This organization provides an opportunity to connect with fellow psychiatric-mental health nurses, be the first to know about evidence-based resources and programs and participate in exclusive opportunities to advance the care and treatment of those with mental health and substance use needs (APNA, 2022). This is important to me for my career goals which is to stay up to date with the latest evidence based research and treatments.
