Education should be free for everyone

Free education has been on debate for decades where some individuals say it should not be free while others argue that it should be free. For those who agree, they say that affordability is the main reason why there should be free education while others argue that it is better for our economy to consist of highly educated individual. If individuals are not educated, they will not meet the standards of employment and thus they will have very limited opportunities of affording a better lifestyle. These are opportunities to which every person has an equal right to reach his/her potential. Therefore, there should be free education because it leads to improved society, widened workforce, and boosted economy. Comment by Laura H: Do you mean K-college, or just college? Be specific about this in your thesis.

One of the reasons why there should be free education is that it improves society. When there are many people educated in a given society, they can have a quick and effective approach to societal problems. This means that the society will see a faster rate of progression. When more people access quality college education, there is an increased number of employable individuals. This means that there will be more individuals in the workforce, which will less the gap between the rich and the poor thus improving the society in general. Comment by Laura H: Can you provide an example of this progression?

Another reason why education should be free is that it leads to a widened workforce in the economy. A shift in the workforce is one of the key aspects that contribute to technological and economic progress. As automation takes over the repetitive tasks, there is a need for people with good creative thinking abilities and analytical skills. These skills and creative thinking abilities are obtained from college education. Therefore, having a free college education means that there will be more people attending college for free to acquire such analytical skills and expand their creativity, thereby expanding the workforce. Comment by Laura H: Good transitions in this paragraph.

Free education will also bring about a boosted economy. Currently, colleges are very expensive with an average debt per student being $40,170. When such students with a debt graduates, it is very hard for them to find a better paying job because they still carry a debt and most employers only employ those individuals with no debts. Even when such an individual got employment, it will take years for them to settle this huge debt. However, if the students would graduate without carrying any college debt, they could have an easy time to earn money, spend it and save. The individuals earning and spending money stimulate the economy. Comment by Laura H: After this paragraph, a counterargument and refutation would strengthen your argument. What would someone who doesn’t support free education say? Why do they say that, and why are they wrong? Then you can move on to the conclusion.

In conclusion, it is important that we have a free education program from kindergarten all the way to college education. This is because of the great benefits that come with free education such as improved society, widened workforce, and boosted economy. The money to fud tuition-free education or having very cheap college education will have to come from somewhere. The government should develop programs that should ensure that there is a free education for all while at the same time not overburdening the tax payers. Some programs like decreasing the military spending is can help finance free education for all individuals across the country.
