Assignment 1 feedback

1. representation respectively. Why is it that this is such a problem among African American women? Are you saying that it is because they are not educated about it? Is that a problem on the family level, the educational level, etc.? [Kathryn Sorensen

· Consider who you would be compiling this study for - local government officials?  Health officials? A non--profit association?  Each may have a very different focus and way of looking at this problem.

· After you determine who it is you would be doing the study for, then be sure to think about what kinds of information they would want to get.  For example, would they want information on how to educate the public, and/or specifically African Americans?  Do they want to prepare a public service campaign to target a specific group/ or a subset of that group (like teenagers, or women specifically).

· What are the ethical issues associated with a study like this?  How would you protect your sources?  What about if you want to interview teenagers?  What are the issues associated with that?

Assignment 3 feedback

You have a good action plan, but be sure that you explicity discuss how an anthropologist could be effective for each of the points in your action plan.  For example, with sex education, how could an anthropologist be more effective that a doctor or a nurse?  With counseling services, how can anthropology help to provide more effective counseling?  Or to increase the number of people with HIV/Aids who go to counseling?  So try to be very clear about the role of the anthropologist in all aspects of your action plan.  Also be sure to address the ethical issues in your next paper.
