Essay # 5 (FE#3) – Academic Research Argument
Chapters 8 - 12 discuss research writing. You may refer to those chapters for help as you begin your research process.
For this assignment, you should investigate a research question about an issue that interests you and relates to how technology and/or social media relates/impacts/affects your chosen career field. You should take a position and create a reasonable argument that works to answer your research question through support from a variety of sources.
Your final essay should do the following:
· Develop a unique and creative title that reflects the subject of your paper.
· Hook or engage the audience in the introduction.
· Include a clear thesis statement at the end of the introduction.
· Support your thesis in the body of the essay by:
· Explaining the subject, giving background information and context.
· Using argumentative strategies and research in each paragraph to clarify and support your position on the issue (remember to start each body paragraph with a topic sentence and include evidence from your sources along with your own original commentary connecting the evidence to your claim).
· Respectfully explaining and refuting and/or conceding opposing positions. (You should include one counterargument paragraph within your essay).
· Restate the thesis, summarize main points, and reiterate the topic’s significance in a conclusion.
· Include a Works Cited list of at least four (4) sources formatted according to MLA guidelines. You must use a minimum of three (3) sources and can include up to eight (8) sources. Two (2) sources can be non-scholarly and at least two (2) sources must be scholarly/peer-reviewed.
This essay will be 1500 words long, formatted using MLA (or APA with explicit permission from me) style.
