Requirements (What do you need to do for this assessment): 1. You have to prepare a 6-minute presentation discussing about the following topic: “Families should have defined gender roles as men and women are fundamentally different” Students will consider how far they agree or disagree with this statement and will come prepared to express their opinions using relevant sources and examples from a range of situations. Students will be marked on their ability show a coherent reasoning based on informed research and relevant academic sources. Students should briefly state their point of view initially (initial statement). There should be a full explanation of reasons afterwards (full arguments). Students are also being marked on how well students engage with the question and apply critical thinking. 2. You must also have submitted your preparation notes.

Structure: Your presentation should have between 4 – 6 slides about the statement, plus one extra slide to list any references you have used. |

Theory and/or task resources required for the assessment: In support of this task, Theme 4 has provided advice on using academic articles and correctly referencing. In Theme 9 there has been an opportunity to specifically learn how to construct an effective debate or discussion, which is recommended to follow as guidance to develop your narration.
Independent research will support your final discussion of the topic.

Assessment reference style: You should aim to include a minimum of eight academic sources, which should be relevant and reputable sources. Penalties may be applied if inappropriate sources are used.

Expected duration:The narrated presentation should be maximum 6 minutes long. |

Learning Outcomes Assessed: · Describe different types of families, gender roles and related theories. · Demonstrate an awareness of the key features of the family environment and assess their potential impacts on society. · Apply understanding of gender roles to the context of a specific family typology. |

Submission Requirements: Your presentation must be ready to be presented in class on the week specified above. You need to have submitted your notes electronically through Turnitin on the VLE by Submission Deadline: Monday 13 July at 9am. (Read FC305 Tips to Help You Write Your Discussion Notes under Resources tile in your VLE)
The size of your files must not be bigger than 40MB.
Assessments submitted after the submission deadline may incur penalties or may not be accepted. |

How will this assessment be marked? The assessment will be marked using the following four weighted marking criteria: Task Achievement, Understanding and Critical Thinking – 50% · How well the task requirements are completed and how well research, understanding and critical thinking are demonstrated. Support, Sources & Referencing – 20% · How well ideas are supported using relevant sources and how accurate in-text and final references are. Narration – 20% · How well you delivered the presentation, how clear your narration was, how effectively you used language to highlight any specific points in the presentation. Visual Presentation & Organisation – 10% · How appropriate and accurate the written language (i.e. grammar, register, style, vocabulary) and how well you organised your ideas in the presentation. You will receive a % mark in each of the criteria above. The overall mark will be a percentage (0-100%). |
