Assessment Task Instructions:

There are four tasks in this assessment. The first three tasks are formative (that is, tasks for which you won’t get a grade but will receive feedback from the teacher) and the fourth task is summative (that is, the main task in this assessment which will be graded and which is worth 60% of the total module mark). All four tasks are part of the Extended Project which you will be working on throughout this module, as follows:

Structure for Task 4 Extended Project Written Report: You must choose a structure for your report which will best suit your Extended Project topic and the question(s) you are investigating. As a minimum you should include the following: 1. Abstract / Summary (max 150 words) 2. Introduction (400 words) 3. Exploration of Sources through Description of key Issues/Discussion/Development/Analysis (please note: this part of your report should have more than one section. The way you structure this should be decided by you, with support from your tutor. Your structure will depend on the topic you have chosen and the ‘story you want to tell’ Secondary Research Review (2250 words) 4. Conclusion (250 words) 5. Reference list (not included in word count) 6. Appendices (e.g. any data sets you have used – not included in word count) You can propose your own titles for sections and sub-sections within part 3.
Here is an example structure for the report on the following Extended Project topic: ‘Is manufacturing essential to economic growth in the UK?’ Abstract: A short summary of the main points of the report. Introduction: A brief introduction to the problem of de-industrialisation. Section 1 title: Reasons for Offshoring . A detailed look at migration of jobs to less-developed economies. Section 2 title: The Problem . Explanation and analysis of drawbacks of offshore manufacturing. Section 3 title: The need for change . Discussion and analysis of benefits of manufacturing at home. Section 4 title: The Solution . Discussion of ‘re-shoring’ and ways of achieving it. Conclusion: Restatement of main points focusing on how manufacturing helps achieve economic recovery and growth. Theory and/or task resources required for the assessment: You must conduct secondary research for this assessment finding relevant sources independently. You must keep a record of the sources that you use to inform your written report. |

Assessment reference style: · In Tasks 2, 3 and 4 of this assessment, you must use APA referencing conventions. · In the final Written Report (task 4), a complete reference list should be included. A full bibliography is NOT required. |

Expected word count: · The final Written Report (task 4) must be 3,000 words (+/-10%). If you write too much or too little, you will lose marks. · There are no word limits for Tasks 1-2. |

Both formative parts of this assessment (Tasks 1-3) and the final Written Report (Task 4) must be submitted on the Pathways VLE. Tasks should be submitted through Turnitin via the VLE. N.B. Your submission title must be your student number (e.g. P102648). (Do not write your name anywhere on any submission documents.)Format all submissions for this assessment following these requirements: Use Arial or Calibri font, size 12 Use double-spaces between lines/1.5 and standard document margins Include an appropriate header Number all pages included in the assignment Include a title page with the following information: · Module Code (e.g. FC300C) · Class/Group (e.g. Group A) · Module Title (Extended Project) · Assessment Type (e.g. Extended Project Formative Task 3) · Module Tutor Name · Student ID Number · Date of Submission · Word count (for tasks 3 and 4 only) |

Your Extended Project Written Report (task 4) grade will be calculated based on separate grades for each of these five aspects:
Task Achievement (25% of total grade) Have you followed the instructions for producing the written report on your project? Have you chosen an appropriate topic for your extended project? Have you investigated the topic in sufficient detail? Have you addressed all the research questions? Have you considered the topic/questions from a variety of angles? Have you formatted your report appropriately and submitted it correctly, as specified in the instructions?
Use of Sources (25% of total grade) Have you selected relevant sources for your project and used them in your report to support your claims? Have you synthesised information from a range of sources in your report? Have you analysed the information from the sources thoroughly and linked it with your project topic?
Structure (20% of total grade) Have you organised your report clearly into sections and arranged them in a logical order? Have you linked the ideas in your paragraphs? Do you use signposting language to help the reader follow the line of your argument?
Support and Referencing (15% of total grade) Have you provided an accurately formatted reference list for all your sources? Have you cited your sources correctly in the body of the report?
Clarity of Expression (15% of total grade) Have you checked the accuracy of your written language? Have you explained complicated concepts to help your reader? Have you used topic-specific vocabulary accurately?
