About the Brand
Patagonia is a California-based outdoor clothing company founded in 1973.
Yves Chouinard started off by just selling climbing apparel and equipment.
Through the time, he decided to include other types of outdoor wear and equipment as well (Deleon, 2018).
Nowadays, it is a brand well-known by its products, and its environmental and social commitments with the planet.

The mission statement of the brand has changed through the years.
As of now, it is “We’re in business to save our home planet.”
The statement displays commitment and love towards the planet.

Materials Used in Production
The cotton used by Patagonia is entirely certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard.
Some other fabrics are bluesign certified.
“A high proportion of its materials are made from recycled fabrics, including its polyester, nylon, and wool” (Wolfe, 2020).

Polybags made from recycled content are used to wrap the products from the factories (Patagonia, 2021).
The famous “sushi rolls” or hexagonal-shaped boxes are used to package base layers.
The boxes are made from 100% post-consumer waste.

Patagonia is a brand that aims to implement as many ethical approaches as possible.
Ethical Approaches
It has environmental as well as social sustainability programs.
Environmental programs educate about current environmental issues and describe how the brand works on minimizing environmental damages (Patagonia, 2021).
Social programs are dedicated to the fair treatment of all Patagonia workers (Patagonia, 2021).
Code of Conduct
The Patagonia Supplier Workplace Code of Conduct ensures ethical treatments towards all supply chain workers (Patagonia, n.d.).
Some of the outlined topics include employment relationships, wages and benefits, hours of work, and health and safety.

The brand genuinely works hard to eradicate issues like human trafficking, forced labor, worker exploitation, etc.

The brand released a statement sharing its discontent with the on-going racist and discriminatory acts towards the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) community.
The Statement was shared through a press release as well as through the brand’s several social media accounts.

Europe’s largest wild river, the Vjosa, has been in danger because over 30 hydropower projects are proposed to be built over it (Hatch Magazine, 2021).
Citizens are demanding for political support to protect the conservation of the river.
To help, Patagonia created the Vjosa Forever short film, which raises environmental awareness.
