Discussion 2:

Case Study: The Case of Jan 

Jan is a 16 year old daughter of a couple you have been working with. Her parents drop her off for their regularly scheduled appointment. They simply say that, “Jan wanted to meet with you today” as an explanation for the change in plan. Once in the session Jan begins to cry and through her tears explains that she just discovered that she is pregnant and that she needs to leave home to avoid bringing shame to the family. She informs you that she has not told her parents anything about this and wants you to promise that you will not tell her parents.

What ethical concerns arise for you in this case study? How would you, working as a family counselor, handle this situation?
