MST intervention
Amy Smith, 14-year-old reported that bio father/parent uses planking as a form of punishment for more that she can endure. Amy reported her body hurts as a result of the punishment. Mr. Smith admitted to using planking as a form of punishment because other forms of punishment such as taking away electronics do not tend to work for Amy. Mrs. Smith reported that child Amy started acting aggressive towards her and younger siblings. Mrs. Fuller also reported that Amy is cutting class and is failing most of her class, she is in the 9th grade in high school. There is has been little interaction between the school and Amy’s parents, school has made several attempts to have a meeting, but it has been impossible to get Mrs. Smith down in the school. In addition, Amy is smoking marijuana, she admitted to smoking every day after school with her group of friends. She was caught stealing from a store two times in the past two weeks. Mrs. Fuller reported that Amy has also been drinking alcohol. She noticed it because she has been able to smell it when she comes home from school.
Mrs. Smith, she feels very overwhelmed with five young children and will like assistance. Mrs. Smith stated that it has been hard for her living in a shelter with her family. Space is very limited, and they are a big family. She reported that when they lost their apartment due to being able to pay rent that’s when Amy started acting out. There is also concerns of IPV, it was reported Mrs. Smith and Mr. Smith got into a physical altercation he has now been excluded from the home. As a result, Mr. Smith in no longer living with Ms. Smith and the children.
The family currently resides in a shelter and Mrs. Smith is searching for apartments in Manhattan due to the fact that her family resides in that area. Mrs. Smith stated right now she needs the support of her family. However there a history of missing appointments with the housing case manager at the shelter to see apartments. Also, the shelter has concerns of the children being left unattended in the residence at times.
