Rocket Height

You and your friends decide to launch a model rocket. You want to predict how high it is going to fly. Looking up the equations for basic projectile motion from, you find:

Assume that the rocket flies straight up and that there is no drag. You know:

Y0 = 0 m (height of launch pad)

V0y = 170 m / s (velocity imparted by the engine)

g = 9.81 m / s2 (gravity)

a. Calculate the expected height of the rocket at 2.5 second intervals for the first 35 seconds.

b. Plot the height of the rocket as a function of time. Be sure to title the graph and label the axes.

c. Use the quadratic equation to solve for the total flight time of the rocket Ttotal, and calculate Ymax (hint, this occurs at Ttotal / 2 in this case).

Report Format

Reports must be computer generated (Word, Excel); spell check and use your best grammatical skills. The report should include the following as discussed in the classroom.

1. Cover Page - (5 Possible Points)

Showing name, assignment title and assignment number, due date and the date submitted.

2. Introduction - (10 Possible Points)

Includes background information and how it relates to engineering.

3. Problem Statement- (5 Possible Points)

4. Work - (45 Possible Points)

Formulating solutions, any calculations, results, graphs.

5. Discussion - (35 Possible Points)

Reflect on the work you have done (presenting and implementing design)

Report should not exceed more than 3 pages (double spaced) of text (not including Tables and Figure) and no less than 2 pages (double spaced). Font must be 12 point Time New Roman.
