Global Warming: Reality or Myth?

Many people are skeptical of or outright opposed to the idea of global warming because they claim there is no hard evidence connecting it to human activity, irrespective of the fact that advocates are convinced that it is genuine and is substantially to blame for the climatic changes seen in recent years due to human activity, such as the release of more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The question of whether or not climate change is a speculation or a fact has been debated. There are strong arguments on both sides of the debate surrounding global climate change and the apparent climate shift, making it among the most divisive and controversial issues of our day. Recent abnormal climate changes, persistently rising temperatures, and diminishing ice cover indicate that global warming is a real problem and not just a fantasy.

Proponents of human-caused global warming argue that rising greenhouse gas emissions like carbon dioxide are to blame for the warming trend and the erratic weather patterns. Recent climate change, continuously increasing temperatures and heat waves, wildfires, flooding, mud slides, and diminishing ice sheets indicate that global warming is a real problem, not just a fantasy (Allen et al., 15). There is currently insufficient evidence from scientists to link the thinning of the ozone layer to the increasing emission of greenhouse gases which cause climate change. The current crisis and other climate indications that seem to disprove the notion of global warming have refocused attention on the issue. With the common goal of "saving" the world from imminent disaster, a worldwide forum has been organized to discuss global warming issues and explore answers to these concerns (Li 455). Despite the real problems and improved exposure as a result of the partial unanimous agreement on global warming, skeptics and a few environmental scientists have committed to advancing the dispute that global warming is an actuality and that gas emissions generated by human operations are responsible for climate change and other variations in the climate. This paper provides a comprehensive defense of global warming to persuade those who disbelieve it that it is a truth, not a myth. The paper attempts to prove that rising atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, result from human activity.

Advocates of the human-caused global warming hypothesis point to increases in atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, as the principal culprit in this phenomenon. Emissions from autos, major companies and industries, fire pits, and even breathing can all be considered anthropic (Li 456). The current climatic worsening caused by increasing pollutants and rising toxic emissions more than justifies the seriousness with which the global warming matter is being handled. Proponents have persisted in trying to convince the general public that greenhouse gas emissions from human activities, particularly CO2 emissions, are the primary contributors to global warming. Skeptics are seen as industrial trills, stupid people, or nasty people who should promptly be silenced by global warming supporters (Taylor). There is evidence that higher temperatures coincided with times of high carbon dioxide levels in the past, but that is not the case now. Currently, these gases account for only a tiny fraction of the atmosphere, but the Earth's surface temperature would be around 50 degrees Fahrenheit cooler if they were completely gone. The rising concentration of greenhouse gases can influence global climate change long after they are put into the atmosphere. This is primarily due to the long lifetimes of oceanic dynamical processes, which contribute to a significant degree of climatic inertia in the climate system (Sulisworo). Global cooling due to ozone depletion is consistent with global warming theory. There is little indication that these cooling effects, rather than their ozone-depleting properties, are responsible for the decreased global temperature. The evidence for global warming is overwhelming and eye-opening: the average global temperature has risen by even more than 1 degree Centigrade (0.9 degrees Celsius) over the previous century and a half, and by roughly twice that much in some Arctic regions, according to thermometer records (Li 458). That does not rule out the possibility of regional or climatic variation. However, experts have shown an undeniable rising tendency by studying global average temperatures.

Many people, especially those who are opposed to the idea of global warming, dismiss it as fiction. Though there is less evidence connecting global warming to human activities, skeptics have dismissed the phenomenon with great vehemence. Those who argue in favor of global warming should base their arguments on the consequences of the phenomenon, which are best illustrated by sudden and potentially fatal shifts in global climatic conditions. The global warming debate has heated up in light of recent extraordinary swings in weather patterns around the world. Recent unusual weather patterns, increased temperatures, and melting ice sheets indicate that global warming is a real problem and not just a fantasy. The time for discussion has long passed, and now is the time for bold action to curb these practices before they destroy our world. All available evidence shows that global warming is not fiction but an undeniable fact.
