Fact Sheet 2: Writing Leads and Incorporating Quotes (Due 6/15 by 11pm CST)
For this assignment, you will need to write an article of between 200 and 250 words on the events listed below. Pay careful attention to which details you choose to highlight, how you construct the lead, and how you utilize the various quotes listed below. The details are listed in chronological order, with multiple possible quotes included below. Feel free to re-order, edit, or expand based on what you have learned thus far about the inverted pyramid structure, the purpose and styles of leads, and the use of quotes in journalism. Copying an article from the many available on various news outlets on-line is, of course, plagiarism. You will need to construct an original article from the details included on this fact sheet.
Chronological order of events
In May 2018, Allison Closs from Carlisle High School in Pennsylvania didn’t have date for the prom, didn’t want to ask a classmate, and didn’t want to attend the prom alone. She went on Amazon and ordered a full-sized cardboard cutout of Danny DiVito, who she took as her date. Her date had her parents’ approval. Pictures were shared widely on Instagram, and reports appeared on various news outlets. She posted a video explaining her choice of date on her YouTube channel.
On June 5, 2018, Danny DiVito posed for pictures with a cardboard cutout of Allison Closs on the set of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” The cardboard cutout is wearing the same blue dress that Allison Closs wore to her prom in May. Pictures were shared on Instagram by Rob McElhenney, who co-stars with Danny DiVito on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
