Paper Study Guide

*First Paper due date is Thursday Oct. 10, and second paper is due Thursday Dec. 5.

*Paper must be at least 3-5 pages typed, double-spaced, and stapled, and turned in hard-copy.

*Paper must be proof-read for spelling, syntax, and grammar (remember for example, that sentences must contain subject and verb)

*Paper must have a thesis, and must consist of an argument with introduction, body, and conclusion, and references to all readings for that week’s question.

Paper Topic: Select one of the weekly topics up to Oct. 10 for the first paper, and one of the weekly topics after Oct. 10 for the second paper. Answer the question pertaining to that week that is in italics on the syllabus.

Remember:

Include all information from all readings, lectures, and discussion for that weekly topic.

Cite correct author and page no. in parenthesis when directly quoting or paraphrasing information from readings

If you use outside sources, cite full bibliographical detail in foot or endnote.

Outside sources may include internet information as long as it is acquired from scholarly, university (.edu, or .org), or known periodical (nytimes, washingtonpost, etc.), and may not include encyclopedias (like wiki) online.

You’ll be graded on how well you understood the information and analysis provided in readings and lecture, how clear and organized the presentation of your argument is, and whether or not you force me to deal with typos, syntax, and grammatical errors (so take the time to correct these before turning in your paper).
