In this discussion, I will consider the annual report for Exxon Mobil Corporation the is located in Texas. Exxon Mobil Corporation provides energy and products that raise the standard of the lives. The most recent annual report for this corporation is for the year 2018 and I will basically use the summarized 2018 annual report.

Exxon Mobil Corporation summarized 2018 annual report has 18 sections. The first section contains the message that is directed to the shareholders by Darren woods who is the chairman and chief executive officer where he informs the shareholders the strategies they have taken, successes that have been accomplished and strategy they have for the next year towards increasing the portfolio and earnings of the firm. Results and Highlights is the second section which entails operating highlights and financial highlights (Exxon Mobil Corporation, 2018).

Competitive advantages form the third section where the firm highlights technology, scale, functional excellence, integration and people as the main areas that create a competitive advantage to the firm. On the aspect of technology, the firm asserts that technology results in advantaged assets, processes and products. Scale forms the second subsection of competitive advantage. The size and breadth of our business provide a critical foundation for long-term success. It enables investments in the development of advanced technologies by leveraging benefits across a large base of operations. Integration is in the third subsection of competitive advantage section, which enables the firm to maximize value across the entire value chain. On the aspect of functional excellence, the firm maximizes the value of the existing projects and new projects. Lastly, on the aspect of People, the firm confirms that commitment and hard work of its people contribute to the success and growth of the firm. Additionally, the firm enjoys the best result which is attributed to a workforce with world-class capabilities and knowledge, anchored in a culture of excellence (Exxon Mobil Corporation, 2018).

The 4th section looks at global operations which are divided into three which are upstream, downstream and chemicals. On the upstream, the firm is one of the largest and most diverse upstream companies, with an active presence in 41 countries. On the aspect of downstream, the firm is one of the world’s largest integrated refiners and marketers of fuels and lubricants. Lastly, on the aspect of the chemical, the firm is one of the most profitable chemical companies, with operations in 16 countries (Exxon Mobil Corporation, 2018).

The fifth section of the reports considers corporate sustainability. ExxonMobil’s primary responsibility is to produce the energy and products that are essential to modern life and economic development. The firm delivers a summary of delivers critical dimensions of sustainability which include environmental, social, and governance performance (Exxon Mobil Corporation, 2018).

The sixth section entails the financial information which of great importance for this discussion. In this particular section, financial highlights are provided; key financial ratios, dividend and shareholder return information all on page 36. Additionally, a summary of the statement of income is provided on page 37, the summary balance sheet at year end on page 38 and summary statement of cash flows is provided on page 39 (Exxon Mobil Corporation, 2018).

On the 7th section, the most frequently termed in the annual report summary are explained. On the 8th section, it contains information on the board of directors, officers and affiliated companies. On section nine, investors’ information is given and in the last section, general information is provided which includes forthcoming events (Exxon Mobil Corporation, 2018).
