Extra Credit SS102 – Professionalism

On a Word document answer the following questions, based on the scenario provided. Write at least one paragraph (4-5 sentences) answering each question. Once complete, submit to the Extra Credit dropbox.

You have been a valued, professional employee with an organization for two years and you are being considered for a promotion. Before the promotion can happen your supervisor wants you to train your replacement. You are scheduled to meet your new trainee in an hour.

1) What steps do you take to prepare for your meeting? Describe what you would like to accomplish over the next few weeks. 2 points

The trainee arrives 20 minutes late with an iced coffee in hand and wearing flip flops. He is talking on his phone to a friend and finishes his conversation while putting his backpack on the floor. He smiles and says “Hi, you must be my trainer. I am really glad to meet you” and extends his hand for a handshake.

2) Knowing what you do about professionalism how would you address your new trainee? What would you say? What would be your expectation of him in future trainings? 2 points

You have reached a point in training in which your trainee needs to meet your customers. You arrange for several meetings the first being your best customer. It is ten minutes before they are to arrive and you notice your trainee is sweating and keeps tapping the table with a pen. While explaining the nature of your relationship with your customer he asks to use the restroom.

3) How can you assist your trainee with his nervousness? What tips would you give him? 2 points

During a lunch with one of your colleagues she brings up a matter about your trainee. He has been sending everyone in the organization Facebook invites. She was curious and went to his Facebook page and found multiple postings and pictures about parties and drinking.

4) How do you deal with this new issue? What will you direct your trainee to do? How would you discuss the Facebook page with him?

After many weeks of training your supervisor is ready to move you to your new position. Your trainee has learned a lot from you and is ready to assume your place.

5) What is the most important piece of advice you would leave him with in relation to professionalism? Why is this so important to you? 2 points
