Extra Credit Essay
Assignment
Attend an event (such as a poetry reading, play performance, writing workshop, etc.) that you feel to be relevant to our class discussions regarding writing, rhetoric, and effective communication. Write a 1 1⁄2 to 2-page essay in which you narrate your experience at the event and reflect on what your experience might teach you about writing rhetoric, or effective communication.
Purpose
To encourage close observation of and thoughtful reflection about communicative acts; to encourage you to think critically about what makes an act of communication effective or ineffective in any given situation.
Audience
General academic audience. Keep your tone professional and remember that your audience will not likely have attended the event you are discussing. Use vivid, detailed description to help the reader understand your experience.

Style and Formatting Requirements
1 1⁄2 to 2 typed pages. Double Spaced. Include the standard assignment block in the upper left-hand corner (see above). MLA style.
How to Submit: to D2L
When you have completed your narrative, please post it as a word doc to the appropriate folder in the Dropbox on D2L using the filename LastNameFirstName.ExtraCredit. For example, if I were to submit an analysis, I would use the filename ShapiroAaron.ExtraCredit.
Grading
This essay will be graded on completion and will generate a 20 point (2%) increase to your final grade for the course.
