Formative Task 1: Project Proposal and Work Plan

This is the first formative task which will help you with your work on the Extended Project. In this task, you will scope the project proposal and plan your work on completing it successfully.

Once you have completed parts 1.1 and 1.2 below please submit this task for feedback via Turnitin on the VLE.

N.B. Your submission title must be your student number (e.g. P102648).

1.1. Scoping the Extended Project Proposal

Questions 1 – 6 below will guide you through the initial stages of scoping your project. Type the answers to each question within the grey boxes. You will have a chance to revise these initial ideas after you have received feedback from your tutor.

1) What is the topic of your Extended Project?

New media: the challenges faced by traditional media institutions in becoming a part of the new media

2) Why have you chosen this topic?

I’m going to study in university a subject named New Media Challenges. and I have a good experience in it, when I worked in a famous online website in my home country.

3) What are the important themes/key words within this topic? Which will you need to provide definitions for?

New media: means of mass communication using digital technologies such as the Internet.

Old media: the media in existence before the arrival of the internet, such as newspapers, books, television, and cinema.

4) What are the key questions about this topic you want to investigate in your project?

What the old media institutions needs to convert themselves to a modern media institution?

What the old media institutions are going to lose in the internet age? And how they are going to cover the expenses?

5) What kind of sources will be most useful for your project? Have you found some already? If not, how will you find them? Be specific.

I think journal articles and books will be so useful. I haven’t found some sources yet, however I’m going to look for books online, and google scholar will help me a lot. Actually, there is a lot of journal articles online will help me also.

6) What do you think will be most difficult for you when researching and writing your report? How can you make this easier for yourself?

I think knowing the expenses of these type of institutions, it might be hard to find it. If I didn’t, I will write according to reliable expectation.

1.2. Creating the Extended Project Work Plan

Think about the tasks you will need to do for this project and how much time each of them will take. Remember that academic sources such as journal articles or chapters in textbooks are often quite challenging to understand and it may take a significant amount of time to read them. You must ensure you give yourself enough time to select and read your academic sources and that you have a strategy for doing so efficiently.

Fill in the plan below with as much detail as possible, including all the project related tasks you want to complete before week 12. If you would like to display your workplan another way, this is also possible (for instance if you want to produce a Gantt chart for all your activities), as long as it is clear how much time you want to devote to each activity and when you want to have it completed.

Some of the task which you must complete in a given week have already been added to the plan below in red font. These must stay as they are so that you meet all required deadlines for the project work. Your plan should include enough detail for your tutor to understand what type of work you have planned for each week. You will have a chance to revise this plan after you have received feedback from your tutor.
