chemistry
here are two full papers on Diels Alder reactions and their applications. Your job will be to carefully read the papers and write a mini-review
A review, in general, is a very comprehensive paper that summarizes findings and research results on a specific topic. In most cases, the authors review hundreds of papers and they summarize their content in an organized fashion. The way the review is organized is like a scientific paper except from the experimental section (usually missing). Below details on how to write your mini-review:
● Abstract: in this case you summarize the innovation, results and findings from the two papers attached. You want to point out why the reaction is particularly useful, the application(s) and the results the two groups obtained
● Introduction: it has to mention the importance of the reaction, you MUST include two references and you MUST briefly talk about TWO of the references cited in the papers. Do not talk about the Diels Alder in general, at this point we should all know what it is.
● Discussion: as usual, this is the part where you MUST discuss the two papers basically summarizes the results and the application. It has to be detailed and it has to include the following points: a. Which type of reactions are discussed. Which techniques that you have encountered in lab
are used in these papers? b. Which reactions you recognize from organic chemistry lecture (they are about DA but they
mention other reactions, some of which you have seen in class) c. Which are the applications d. Which are the results e. Did the authors have issues in conducting these syntheses? Did they encounter problems in
any of the steps in the application? f. Which is the innovation for each paper? g. Why the type of research conducted is useful? Does it solve problems that nobody was able
to address before? Does it involve reagents that are more convenient/cheaper/greener etc? Explain and discuss
h. INCLUDE a scheme that is particularly significant for each paper i.
Even though usually personal opinions are not included, EXPLAIN which paper is more interesting for YOU and WHY.
