EXPLORING ESSAY ― Four + page research essay. PROMPT: Think of a historical person, event, period, or series of events that interests you: it could be as broad as the history of cars, tornado chasing, or fashion design, or as specific as a musician you admire, a famous athlete, or an infamous criminal. I’ll also consider famous mysteries, disasters, and world events. To be considered “historical,” I’ll request that the beginning of this story (e.g., the birth of the person, or the first moments in this event) take place before 1950. It can extend past 1950, but must have a foot in the early 20th century. Write a paper about this that reports on the story of your topic: go into detail telling me all about it, tracing it from the beginning to either the end, or its present status (if it’s a living person or an event that is still controversial). AUDIENCE: Someone who might be interested in the same topic, but doesn’t necessarily know a lot about it. Include 6-8 reliable sources in your works cited page.
