Linear Regression Model

Exercise 4 offers two versions: EXCEL (base) and RStudio (BONUS)

Track 2 RStudio: If you have chosen to work with RStudio (1 % BONUS), please run the

following models and complete the following tables. See Track 1 below for EXCEL

1st Model:

Run a linear model and predict the difference between hospital beds (use the bed-tot) and hospital’s ownership on hospital net-benefit? Discuss your finding, do you think having higher beds has positive i mpact on the hospital net benefit? What about the ownership?

2nd Model:

Now, es!mate the impact of being a member of a hospital system on hospital net benefit.

And discuss your findings (not more than 2 lines). Is the result significant? Explain.

3rd Model:

Include the ra!o of ra!o-Medicare-discharge and ra!o-Medicaid-discharge in your model.

How do you evaluate the impact of having higher Medicare and Medicaid pa!ents on

hospital revenues?

Based on your findings please recommend 3 policies to improve hospital performance.

Please make sure to use the final model for your recommenda!on.

Discuss your findings. Make sure to a"ach the plo"ed or graphed informa!on

Track 1 EXCEL: If you have chosen to work with Excel, please run the following four models

and complete the tables. Please use the Analysis ToolPak. Please eliminate any data rows

with missing values or impute the missing values before you run the Regression to avoid

errors. (The "Total hospital beds" variable has a few missing values).

Model 1:

Run a mul!ple linear regression model to explain/predict Net Hospital Benefits (Net Revenue). For your first

model, the dependent variable is Net Hospital Benefits and the independent or predictor variables are Total

Hospital Beds and whether the hospital is Teaching or not. Complete Table 1.

Model 2:

Run a mul!ple linear regression model and explain/predict Net Hospital Benefits (Net Revenue). In the 2nd

model, the dependent variable is

Net Hospital Benefits and the independent or predictor variables are Total Hospital Beds and whether the

hospital is Non-Teaching or not. You may convert the Teaching Hospital column into a Non-Teaching column

by subtrac!ng 1 and changing the sign of the data. Complete Table 2.
