EXERCISE: BOOK FORMATTING, PART I

1. Make sure the default line spacing for your document is single-spacing, 0 before and 0 after each line and margins are set at 1 inch on all sides.

2. Turn on the Show/Hide button.

3. Put your cursor in front of the title on the first page of your report. Click on CTRL + ENTER to create a page break. Do that three more times. You should have 4 blank pages before the first page of your report. This will eventually become your Front Matter.

4. You can put titles on the pages if you want, just to stay organized. First blank page = cover page; second blank page = table of contents; third blank page = list of illustrations, and fourth blank page = executive summary.

5. Create a section break-next page on the fourth blank page. (See video)

6. Page numbering for the two sections:

a. Put lower case Roman numerals in the front matter.

b. Put regular numbers in the rest of the document, beginning with 1.

7. Modify the pre-set heading/subheading styles.

Heading style 1: CALIBRI all caps, 12 pt., Black, bold, left-aligned

Heading style 2: Calibri 12 pt., black, bold, left-aligned

Heading style 3: Calibri 12 pt., black, left-aligned, not bold, underlined

Heading style 4: Calibri 12 pt., black, left-aligned, not bold, italic

8. Apply modified heading styles to ALL headings and subheadings in the document.

9. Insert and format all graphics.

10. Caption the graphics. Click on the graphic and go to References-Insert Caption or just right-click and select Insert Caption. Include parenthetical documentation if needed.

11. Check parenthetical documentation in the report text.

12. Create bibliography with sources that you actually cited in the report.

13. Create two blank pages after the bibliography. Title them Index and Notes.

14. Save your partially book formatted draft as lastnamefirstinitial_draft2_3309xxx.

15. Submit in Canvas.
