Assignment: Exemplification Paragraph ENGL 1101

Exemplification Paragraph Purpose Students should combine a variety of rhetorical strategies in their essays to compose a well-written paper. These short writing assignments will help students focus on one strategy at a time to perfect their writing before an essay is due. Exemplification writing helps students work with multiple examples as support for claims.

Instructions Using the exemplification rhetorical strategy, respond to one of the following prompts. If you would like to come up with your own topic, you will need to check with your instructor.

1. Should election voting be done solely online? 2. Should people sacrifice some of their privacy for getting higher security? 3. Should marijuana be decriminalized? 4. What are the best legal measures for preventing mass shootings? 5. Should texting while driving become illegal everywhere? 6. Does music help students to learn better? 7. Should there be religion classes in schools? 8. Which historical figure had the greatest impact on the course of history?

In the paragraph, you will need the following:

1. A topic sentence that states explicitly your claim for the paragraph. 2. Evidence in the form of experience, observation, or testimony. You need at least

two pieces of evidence. 3. After you give your evidence, you will need to explain and analyze how your

examples/evidence helps you prove your topic sentence. 4. Your final sentence is your concluding sentence or transition. Since this is a

single paragraph assignment, you should wrap everything up in your concluding sentence and refer back to your topic sentence ideas.
