Purpose of the Exegesis Paper

To analyze and interpret the meaning of text after reading a story from the Bible.

To explain the BIG IMPRESSION (lessons/theme) of the biblical text.

Explain which text to analyze.

Introduce the main theme (Big impression) on the event/character.

Thesis statement

Background Paragraph

1) historical situation/context (researched)

2) Book author & when the book was written(researched)

3) summary of the story you chose from the list (3 sentences).

4) Transition sentence

Do not use “direct quotes” & paraphrase all information with a citation.

Body paragraphs

Explain how BIG IMPRESSION is revealed in your Bible story.

Analyze and explain the meaning of the biblical text.

Body paragraph

Explain where you got the main idea/lesson from your Bible story

Explain the connection between your big impression with the “quotes”

Focus on your Bible story to analyze the meaning of the text.

No need to find “quotes” from other books.

Conclusion

Add a transition word (e.g., In conclusion) to begin the paragraph.

Summarize the key words (Big impression and roadmap) and what the paragraph has discussed.

Add modern application or a personal reflection at the end.

-Explain how the story is related to your own life.
