Course Reflection: Business Intelligence

Business intelligence is crucial in determination of operations of any business in a successful manner. Being successful in business means that the management as well as the employees are able to make the right decisions. This course has been very resourceful in equipping me with knowledge about making the right decisions and the use of technology as an aid in decision making. I have been able to use the knowledge gained from his course in management as a unit manager. There are several resourceful applications of this course in this job position as a Unit manager. Managerial decision-making skills aids in making proper decisions as a manager, the phases of decision-making dictate on how decisions should be made. On the other hand, the concepts of data mining are applicable in management decision making and they give a leeway to proper decisions, which is crucial in business intelligence.

Managerial decision making is not only a process of decision making, but a process which should be applied by all managers who look forward to making effective decisions for the organizations. As a unit manager, I have gained a lot from this course and I am able to apply it in the workplace to improve the productivity of the unit. From this course I have learned how t utilize the positional priority in making decisions as the manager. The manager is able to make any decisions on behalf of the unit provided that they are articulate, and they can be justified to be right (Turban, 2015). The workability of the decisions made by the manager should be ensured by the manager himself. There should not be a difficult decision for a manager to make since they are responsible for their unit. The knowledge of managerial decision making which was learned in this course is effective in my job position and it will be useful even in the other positions that I will hold in the future and without the knowledge from the course, it is almost impossible to be effective.

Decision making cannot just be done without following the right criterion which is taught in the decision-making phase. The course focuses on the four crucial phases in decision making which include the intelligent stage, the design stage, the choice stage and the implementation stage. These phases help a manager to think critically and evaluate the decisions being made effectively. I have been able to apply these stages in making decisions as a manger in my position as the unit manager. In the intelligent stage, I ensure that all the data that is required in making the set decision is collected and internalized to aid in the decision (Turban, 2015). This majorly involve the previous data from similar or almost similar decision. I then design the decision by making a model and designing for possible alternatives to the original decision the decision may not work at some point. At the choice phase, I choose the best alternative for the decision. I then implement my decision as per the needs of the organization.

It is important to apply the knowledge learned in any institution and in any course in the workplace and in the day to day activities. Decision making is not an easy task and it is always important to follow the right channel in order to make a workable decision. This is well reflected in business and it is a way of increasing business intelligence. Thus, this course has been resourceful and has increased my knowledge and intelligence thus, I am able to make great decisions in my unit management work.
