Execution of Reconnaissance and Enumeration
Name
Course
Date
The execution of reconnaissance and enumeration was based on the use of Nmap, Ping, and Traceroute.
The methods were mainly used in determing network layout and topology.
The methods also evaluated the systems applicable to the network.
Introduction
Network Topology defines the layout of any network.
Network topology can either be logical or physical (Rosen, 2014).
Physical implies the physical layout of the devices in a given network.
Logical means the manner in which systems signals an act through the network media.
The manner in which data passes from one media to another one through the media is very important (Rosen, 2014).
Network Topology and Layout
The methods used for the execution procedure of reconnaissance and Enumeration included:
Nmap
Ping
Traceroute
Procedures and Methods Used
The method was used because it is observed to be an open-source and free tool for vulnerability network discovery and scanning.
Nmap method also uses IP packets for identifying the all devices connected to a given network while providing information on the operating systems (Pale, 2012).
Nmap also ensures that active process of determining network layout and topology is legitimate (Pale, 2012).
Nmap Method
The method is used diagnostically for ensuring that the host computer user is trying to reach its operating.
The method can also be used to ping any IP address while determining network layout and topology (McMillan, 2012).
Continues pinging is also necessary when determining the network layout and topology.
The range of the IPS was also important when determining network topology and layout (McMillan, 2012).
Ping Method
The method works by setting the TTL for a packet 1 while sending it towards the requested host destination and listening for the reply (Dean, 2013).
To be effective with the process of determining network topology and layout, the traceroute is run during the time, when the user is experiencing the problem from a computer having a problem.
The best approach is to connect to the site one more time before the network is run. Suppose the problem no longer exists, the user is allowed to wait until the problem occurs in the next run (Wolfendale, 2014).

From the step analysis, the process and methods used in determining the network topology and layouts are equally important.
These methods play essential roles in the performance of network, including illustration of the networking concepts.
Consequently, the methods reduce factors such as maintenance and operational costs, including cabling.
Network topology is also necessary for specific spatial functions like network routing, which is achieved through linear networks and layouts.
