PURPOSE

Business professionals are inundated with communication.  This constant communication ranges from electronic forms, like the endless information available for consumption on the web, email, and text messages, to the more formal workplace communication of presentations, memos, and reports.  To reduce the information overload, an executive summary summarizes key points of a document in paragraph format.

YOUR TASK

You will assume the role of the assistant to the CEO of a large business.  Your boss has asked you to summarize an article that he found that he wants to share with the executives that report to him. The only research will be the article assigned.

Choose ONE of the following articles to summarize for this assignment:

· "Stop the Meeting Madness".  By Leslie A. Perlow, Constance Noonan Hadley, and Eunice Eun. Harvard Business Review. July-August, t2017, Vol. 95, Issue 4, p62-68. 8p. (Note: Do not include "In Brief" or the table on page 68.)

Note that the above have purposely NOT been formatted correctly!  Your job is to reformat this information into proper APA format for the reference page.

Use the Walsh College’s EBSCO: Business Source Elite database to access these articles so you can download a copy with page numbers.  The easiest way to find the articles is to use the Advanced Search function and enter the first part of the title, select Article, select Boolean search, and enter the year of publication. IMPORTANT: Select to download a PDF of the article instead of a text-only copy so that the document you are working from includes page numbers that you will need for citations.

Also, since this is a summary, you should not be quoting anything directly from the article.  Make sure you follow the additional instructions in the lecture on executive summaries posted in Week Nine.

FORMAT

The executive summary should adhere to the following format

Text Size

12-Point; left-justified

Font

Calibri, Arial, or Times New Roman.

Spacing

Single line spacing; block format; Remove extra After spacing that Word adds as a default.  Note that regardless of rest of line spacing, references must always be double-spaced.

Margins

1 inch on all sides

Length

Two pages (approximately 800-900 words) plus a reference page.

Documentation

Include a reference for one source, the actual article, in your reference page.  All information summarized must be cited using properly formatted citations within the document.  Note: Since these articles have page numbers, you need to include those in all citations that refer to specific places within the article. (Assuming that all information in a paragraph comes from the same article page, one citation per paragraph will be adequate.)

Headings

Note: Include the original major headings from the article, but do not add any additional headings. The headings shown in the graphic below are first-level headings, as is the heading for the reference page.  Treat the rest of the headings in the article as second-level headings.  Use the format for second-level headings as specified in the Purdue OWL resource listed below under "Preparation."

First Page

On top of the first page, please put the following items centered and bolded on separate lines: Executive Summary, “Title of Article”, and Summarized by Your Name. See example, below
