Anterograde Amnesia: An example of anterograde amnesia is when an individual maybe doing a specific activity, such as going to the store, and when they get back home, they won’t remember that they even went to the store in the first place. They just might end up going to the store again later that same day for the same things they went to go buy the first time they went. Recency Effect: An example of recency effect is if students were to listen to various presentations throughout the day and were asked to recall what the topic of the presentation was. They would most likely remember one of the last presentations since those would stick out to them more than the rest. Since it’s towards the latter part of the list, they’d easily remember those presentation topics. Semantic Level of Processing: An example of the semantic level of processing is when an individual can remember a specific phone number based solely on someone’s name. Due to the association of that person’s name, that individual would be able to link the phone number to that specific person and give that specific phone number a meaning. So when given that number in the future, they will associate it with that person. Ego: An example of the ego is when someone has been in line for hours to get on a ride at an amusement park and suddenly someone cuts in front of them. The ego would make them not do something irrational, like punch them in the nose or yell profanities at them, because that would ultimately be their primitive urge. Self-Actualization: An example of self-actualization is when teachers teach because it’s their calling. They find working with the students fulfilling because they don’t expectant thing in return and are satisfied with where they are in life. Which is why, they would have a strong determination in helping their students succeed. Self-Serving Bias: An example of self-serving bias is when an employee hopes to get a promotion at their job and the manager promotes someone else. As a result, the employee indicates that the reason for not getting the promotion is because the manager didn’t really like her. But if the employee ends up getting the promotion, she would say that the reason would be due to her sales quota and effective communication skills.
