CURRICULUM CRITIQUE 2
Educational Objectives Assignment
The Tyler Rationale presents a well-established philosophical framework for the
development of a comprehensive curriculum. It is built on a sequential approach that comprises
four guiding questions. To enhance school practices, curriculum developers must identify and
implement the most effective methods that align with this model (Kliebard, 1970). The four
guiding questions that Tyler Rationale speaks upon for curriculum development are; what
educational purposes should the school seek to obtain, what educational experiences can be
provided that are likely to attain these purpose, how can these educational experiences be
effectively organized, and how can we determine whether there purposes are being attained
(Kliebard, 1970, pg.259)? The four steps for education used by Tyler Rationale can be
summarized as; stating objectives, selecting “experiences,” organizing “experiences,” and
evaluating (Kliebard, 1970).
The Tyler Rationale is a valuable tool that can guide educators in the process of designing
and planning a curriculum. It is essential to conduct research that aligns with the learning
objectives and takes into consideration the students' learning style. As noted by Wraga (2017),
students benefit greatly from experiential learning rather than relying solely on the guidance of
the teacher, which differs from the approach taken in traditional seminars. By following the Tyler
Rationale and incorporating experiential learning, educators can create a curriculum that is both
effective and engaging for their students.
Compare
Both the lesson plan and Kliebard employ the Tyler Model as a guiding framework for
education. This model places great emphasis on the perspective and goals of students, while
simultaneously acknowledging any potential challenges that may arise. By prioritizing the

individual needs and aspirations of learners, educators are better equipped to create a meaningful
and effective learning experience. Overall, the Tyler Model serves as a valuable tool for
promoting student success and ensuring a well-rounded education.
Clear goals and objectives are another commonality between the required reading and
curriculum plan. To ensure effective curriculum development, it is essential to have a
comprehensive understanding of the targeted educational objectives before initiating the
planning or execution process (Kliebard, 1970).
Contrast
Tyler's approach to developing objectives is more comprehensive as it takes into account
the needs of the learner and society. This is done by gathering input from subject-matter experts
and analyzing relevant studies. On the other hand, the plant's lesson plan places less emphasis on
societal considerations and instead prioritizes the experimental aspect of the lesson. Upon closer
examination, it became apparent that there existed a discrepancy between the lesson plan and
Tyler's Rationale with regards to both the formulation of the curriculum and the methodology
employed in teaching. According to Kliebard's (1970) analysis, it is possible to address the
educational requirements of all students, but the current lesson plan lacks the flexibility to cater
to the diverse learning styles of students.
Application
I suggest that the curriculum plan be enhanced to include a variety of teaching methods
that cater to different student needs. This will ensure that the learning objectives are achieved
effectively. Additionally, I strongly recommend that teachers review their lessons thoroughly to
establish clear goals, objectives, and assessments that are appropriate for the students' learning
level. This will help them deliver quality education that benefits the students. One effective

approach for students to determine their own needs and the necessary requirements for a lesson
is through the utilization of the Tyler rationale. This method can aid learners in recognizing what
they already know and what they need to learn in order to achieve their desired learning
outcomes.
