Megan is successful because the people around her believe in her! They see her for her wonderful personality instead of for her "disability." People with disabilities have different and unique strengths that they offer to us, and like she said, we can learn so much from them! Full inclusion for her was the best thing, providing support with her para, holding her to same expectations, and not limiting her is what made her the successful young woman she is. Just like anyone else, she has things she is passionate about. Cheerleading, fashion, public speaking, those are things that many people with disabilities would never get to experience. Because of inclusion, acceptance, and her go get them attitude, she is living out her dreams and passions, which is so exciting and inspiring to see.

I think the most important thing Eugene and friends have taught me is to be aware and not to limit children with disabilities. Do not be afraid to advocate for these children, their families, and their needs. That sometimes things that present as a "disability" can actually be an injury, trauma, or lack of resources. Ask the hard questions, and share your wisdom. I would have never advocated for a child to have full inclusion until this class. It has opened my eyes and my heart and will really help me to be a more affective counselor.

Eugene also gave me great practice writing IEP goals and objectives. While I will not write those in my profession, I will be a vital part to the IEP team and my input will be valuable in many situations. I need a clear understanding of how IEP's work, and how to come up with effective and obtainable goals, which this class has taught me.
