The research aims to establish the factors that accelerate waste generation in construction projects and analyse the potential role of BIM in mitigating the impacts caused by those factors.

1. Identify the factors that contribute to waste generation during the project lifecycle and link such factors to the corresponding asset life cycle (design, construction, and operation). Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Research method to use is literature review

Establish the current practices and challenges of waste reduction in the construction industry, and investigate the potential contribution of BIM to waste reduction by design or during the construction phase. 1. Demonstrate the application of the BIM in managing the identified factors, that contribute to waste generation, through use case scenario. Comment by Mohamad Kassem: Research methods: The practical examples to demonstrate BIM role in reducing waste could be from the literature (secondary data), and/or from the student own simulation (using real industry data/models, etc.) or scenario supplied by industry (still classes as primary data).
