Organizational Behavior Schematic

Robbins & Judge, 2019

Adapting the Basic OB Model above, my schematic draws on the organizational, group, and individual level of the inputs, processes, and outcomes model perspective to organize the concepts covered in this course.

Organizational Level

Team / Group Level

Individual Level

Organizational level phenomena pertain to the macro-OB (ex. organizational development and change, merger and acquisitions, complexity theory) components of organizational behavior.

Team / Group level phenomena pertain to the meso-OB (ex. team behavioral integration, team cohesion, social learning theory) components of organizational behavior.

Individual level phenomena pertain to the micro-OB (ex. motivation, emotion, identification ) components of organizational behavior.

All three occur on a circumplex (Argyris & Schon, Schein, March) and inform one another in an iterative process.

Overview of OB content

To describe the overarching findings from course content, memes will be now be used as creative visual artifacts to represent key topics and main findings from each empirical article. Think of them as "art portraits"...see if you can figure out what content from the captions represent!

The empirical study of memes and their variations have led sociologists and anthropologists to identify memes as cultural artifacts and modalities of expression in the context of the digital era (Shifman, 2014. According to Wikipedia, memes are a broadly defined as "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture—often with the aim of conveying a particular phenomenon, theme, or meaning represented by the meme. A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices, that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures."

Therefore, using memes only...I wanted to have a little fun with this schematic! Pretend for a moment that you are in an art gallery, and with your prior knowledge of the empirical studies, see if you can decipher the themes from the memes that correlate to the themes from the papers.
