Chinese festival held by the Confucius Institute

I visited the Chinese festival which was held by the Confucius Institute. It was a place to have fun and spread awareness regarding the Chinese culture. This festival was carried out to spread the intercultural awareness among the people. I visited the event for the sake of the experience which I get from different kinds of activities includingthe show of paper arts, paintings, and food stalls. These activities were enough to provide the necessary intercultural awareness.

The paper cutting is part of the event in which the heritage of the Chinese culture was shown. The student tried different paper cutting techniques that Chinese people use in their home decoration. The boards are placed to show the decorating preferences of the Chinese people. They depict that the culture is full of delightedness and people want to have their surroundings beautiful. One of the most important and informative things is the description that has been pasted alongside the paper cuttings. The paper cuttings arts describe the cultural designs of the Chinese heritage which they use to paste on their doors and windows. It is one most beneficial points of this activity with regard to targeted concepts of the intercultural relational course. For example, the intercultural relational course is objected to building deep understanding so people can build a multicultural society. Another best factor of the boards is the “how to make it section”. There are also certain issues with the event which I observed, such as the very short description of the paper cutting, the number of papers cutting boards is not much, and the description of the ways through which it can be made is vague. These things create difficulties for me and for many other students. The information given is not enough to make one of those which were shown. This activity is related to the course of intercultural relations. By learning about the traditions of Chinese culture, students of other cultures can develop a better understanding of their culture.

The paintings of the Chinese culture are also well describing the deep insight of there culture. Different collection of paintings is also self-descriptive in nature, as they are showing the understanding between people about some cultural or traditional perspective. The good point of this event is that it is showing kind of proof in the form of pictures. I personally like the event of painting and I think that painting and art is best way to communicate feelings and thoughts. Every painting or piece of art has its own roots with cultural values. It helps students to build a better understanding of the course and develop a link with concepts of course. Another good factor is that the paintings are complete enough so that they describe their meanings well. But there are some empty points in it which could have made this effort more fruitful for example, the absence of the description. Description can describe the occasion when these were designed. In my opinion, this activity builds a connection with the course of intercultural relations. Reviewing old literature and work is the best way to understand the values of some particular culture. The painting at the festival also depicted the inclination of the Chinese towards the different kind of art work and build a link with other cultural societies.

I observed this event as the best one from others as they describe the essence of the Chinese culture, and what could be better to show some other culture through the food they ate. The Chinese people were serving their Chinese food to the visitors of the stall. The variety of the stalls and the food on them was giving a new touch to the entire event. This is the most effective appeal to awareness about other cultures. The taste of the food which was served there was also fine, and it fulfills its purpose in a very good manner, which is to make people aware of the Chinese culture. There was no ambiguity that the stalls were well established and well-represented as well, but there was hustle around the food stalls, which was confusing us. This activity is helpful for students to build a deep connection with Chinese culture because food shows the true cultural heritage which they possess still now, which was introduced hundreds of years back.

In the course, the major lesson in it was the awareness and the respect of cultural diversity, which got a practical image through this event. In this event, the diversity has been promoted through the elements of the Chinese culture that had given the chance to the Chinese people to show about them by using traditional decorating techniques and artwork that represents old traditions and values.
