Malnutrition
Top of Form
As part of my conservation efforts, I had given myself a goal of preventing malnutrition if possible. I really felt compelled to try to help with this cause. My abilities to reach out to the state, or any Government authorities is extremely limited due to living in a different country. However, I can get directly involved in my son’s school. He goes to an international school, yet are the cooks. The local schools don’t have the same dietary standards as those in the United states. So far, I have been able to address the lack of nutritious snacks, by having the school decrease pastries, cookies and the amount of overall sweets. In turn they agreed to provide less sweets, giving yogurt and fruits and vegetables as options instead. My goal would be to educate the schools, the cooks and the parents on the health benefits on not eating having carbohydrates every day, and also prevent foods from being cooked in oil every time. Even though these students have food, they can still be malnourished but not getting the proper amount of vegetables, fruits and health protein and grains.
The literature is very encouraging and clear. The matter of fact is that nutrition can be fixed but we need to fix and change how food is made, distributed and how one has a behavior with food. There are enough organizations such as Women’s, Infants and Children also known as WIC. WIC helps with preventing malnutrition as the start, it provides education, food and health benefits for low income families. Poverty can affect one’s ability to have nutritious, health meals and overall health.
