My exposure to information technology began at a very early age. When in primary school, I had the rare privilege of taking part in informatics competition due to prominent problem-solving skills. Trainings in program structure, LOGO language and algorithm, etc. nurtured me into a pupil of broader vision and stronger logic thinking ability. At that time, applying computer language and algorithms to implement data management and processing especially endowed me with great sense of achievement. Then in high school with deeper investigation, I began to ponder on the rewriting of algorithms, and managed to turn the recursive realization of Treed into no recursive realization, which made the tree-structured data stored sequentially. Through this process, I not only strengthened my technical skills but also learned how to apply them to support practical problem settlement. All the efforts I made convinced me that the information technology can undoubtedly contribute to the real-world.

Above all, my undergraduate study on Informatics in University of Pittsburgh gave me access to a wide ken of knowledge and methods of various subjects like economics, mathematics, social informatics, statistical techniques, and information infrastructure, which cultivated me the personality of scrupulousness and meticulousness. Through academic study, I have not only assimilated useful knowledge in a great variety of fields but also exercised my capabilities in programming and data analysis.

Holding strong zeal, I looked for every opportunity to engage in relevant extracurricular research to hone myself. In the light of Shanghai's previous GDP and industrial structure, I utilized MATLAB programming to fit the prediction function that was applied to study the economic impact of Shanghai World Expo. To draw some histograms and pie charts made the evaluating results more intuitive. In order to have clustering analysis to the results of a large number of data, I also learned to take advantage of SPSS all night. Establishment of relevant conceptual models like Entity-Relationship diagram and database table, together with adoption of Microsoft SQL, ODBC and ADO all contributed to my successful completion of the task. In addition, able to critically analyze the faults in the current system like data instability, I always did a good job in reasonable division of labor and firm cooperation with other mates. My in-depth understanding of systems and information technology that can be used to enhance effectiveness, I believe, can also do great good to my future study.

Apart from that, I consider myself a qualified candidate for Informatics learning with my systematic managerial awareness. In charge of the network department of student's union, I was responsible for daily administration. Especially, I am proud that I have led the reform in which I proposed to improve its functioning in terms of sustainability and information transmission. Catering to the campus environment and students' interests, I changed the tedious news board into frequently alternating shorter ones and removed the sections of poor timeliness. Three sub-departments on planning & promotion, production and maintenance development were added to emancipate the programmer from heavy tasks. And internal information transmission channel was simplified to enhance message reliability and efficiency. This experience showed the power of systematic mind to help achieve my organizational goals.

Knowing the importance of probing into the real world, I seized the internship opportunity to work in Technology Development Department of Zhejiang Daily. Serving as the front-end web engineer, I took the responsibility to present a better and more vivid interface of the website to the users. According to the web standards of W3C, the front-end codes were organized more orderly. For user experience, I made re-layout of pages with HTML and CSS, then the files were smaller, and the download speeds were faster. Under the guidance of my coach, I also paid attention to the compatibility in different browsers, rendering principles and the presence of bug. There were lots of schemes to realize the website, but some might have higher maintenance costs, some might have performance issues, so I needed to figure out which one was the fittest. During the internship, I was honored as The Advanced Individual and got high recognition from our manager. My tentative practice broadened my vision of the significant effect of information technology and prepared me for more demanding work.

Many aspects in the modern age rely heavily on information to thrive. What I have experienced backed up my belief that the development and use of Informatics is an irresistible trend of utilizing appropriate information to support better planning, better decision making and better results. Thus I set up my mind to deeper explore this realm. After completing more advanced education on Informatics, I will strive to seek a job in a well-known software corporation like SAP and Oracle to create, maintain and manage computer systems for business operations. My long-term is to set up my own company to provide IT management consulting service within ten years. After much deliberation, I consider the Informatics program in your university is second to none. I am sure that the instruction of your well-designed curriculum and professional faculty will help fulfill my dream.
