Vianey Montagner- Group 14 SWOT Analysis Our Problem: How might we accomplish a shift in attention from the objectification and sexualization of women in the media to a respectable trend that society buys into?
Our Solution: Take original over-sexualized ads of women in the media and replace the women with men and have a side by side comparison.
SWOT Analysis STRENGTHS:
1. High volume of viewers, so can broadcast to at least the whole majority of the U.S. 2. We will be targeting the problem on the platform it is occurring mostly on. 3. Dramatically bring the problem to light, in a very impactful way. 4. This solution is targeting the audience in an empathetic way. It brings in emotions. 5. We know exactly what we want to show society and how it affects everyone. 6. It compares the two genders very well, and it will be very obvious with the reversed roles. 7. This will affect the way the media displays women in the future. 8. It will help new media (shows, movies, commercials, etc.) change the way the role of women is
shown in the media. 9. It shows how the two genders are displayed with the superior/inferior phenomena that has
been occurring for centuries. 10. This solution can easily become global since the media extends so far, and so easily.
WEAKNESSES:
1. Men in a women’s role is still seen as a taboo in our world, so may stir other issues. 2. Could be extremely expensive when we want to air on TV. 3. Gathering people with money who will invest in this solution. 4. May go too far and now make men appear sexualized and objectified. Actually reverse the roles
in our society. 5. May not send the exact message we want, and not solve the issue we target. 6. Difficult to get approval for copyright if brand/company doesn’t agree with issue. 7. Can be time consuming to create the ads. 8. It could bring awareness, but not actually change society and fix the problem. 9. The media could still continuously promote sexualized/objectified women even with this idea. 10. This could create more tension between the sexes than there already is because men could feel
attacked or people who have traditional beliefs don’t want change.
OPPORTUNITIES:
1. Partner up with feminist groups to help out on the issue. 2. Partnerships with female empowerment organizations. 3. Make our national advertisements into international ones to spread the word all over the world. 4. Bring to light other social issues like pedophilia, or animal abuse. 5. Give women confidence to stand up for their rights when watching these ads.
