This course helped promote my thinking about what research is or can be, what possibilities and limitations exist, what conditions make it possible to participate in research, and what commitments must be addressed in making decisions about epistemology and method. I believe that principal focus will be on developing models of disciplined inquiry aimed at the advancement of educational ideas and practice. I have learned from this course that advanced research writing enhances learning.
I believe that the aim of the course is to provide me with in- depth knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods is research, with an overview of different analytical procedures and with skills in statistical processing that will enable me to analyze current research issues. A further aim of the course provided me with insight into the processes that lead to the publishing of research.
I have learned from this course that research has complex meanings that differ depending on the discipline but for the purposes of providing a simple definition, more as a point of departure rather than a conclusive statement, research can be defined as a means of generating, testing, validating knowledge and making it public. It is a systematic process of investigation, the general purpose of which is to contribute to the body of knowledge that shapes and guides academic and/or practice disciplines.
I have learned from this course how to analyze, evaluate, criticize, combine, and draw conclusions from information sources. I am often unaware of research tools or don't understand the expectations of scholarly disciplines. However,
this course supplied me with assignments that taught me research skills can help gain confidence and facility in using research tools, a better understanding of disciplinary criteria, and a sense of how scholars use resources in their research.
This course introduced me to research projects in varies contexts and to provide me with an understanding of how to formulate a research proposal. In this course I built on skills learned in this course and I learned how to use published research critically to write well-structured and well-referenced paper. Overall, I have learned that research is a very general term for an activity that involves finding out, in a more or less systematic way, things I did not know. I believe that a more academic interpretation is that research involves finding out about things that no-one else knew either. It is about advancing the frontiers of knowledge that will assist me in my future goals. I believe research methods are the techniques I utilize to do research.
