The categorical variable that I used for this discussion was the nominal variable of having a gun in the home. The mean of the data is 1.89. The median of the data is 2.00. The mode of the data is 2. The standard deviation in this data is .38. In this instance I feel that the median or average would be the best measure of central tendency. An appropriate measure of variation is the mean of the respondent’s feelings towards owning a gun or having it in the home. The variance of the data is .145. This information would provide us with the average of the participants who have at least one gun in the home. This measure would give us a better look at the entire picture of the dataset. I would describe this data as all-encompassing of the participants in the research. This measure of the variable allows us to view the attitudes of the participants in this dataset. An example of a research question that this variable would help to answer is do more republican or democratic participants have firearms in their home?

The continuous variable that I used for this discussion was the scale variable of www hours per week. The mean of the data is 14.55. The median of the data is 7.00. The mode of the data is 1. The standard deviation in this data is 18.943. The best measure of central tendency for this dataset would be the mean as we would know the average of the hours watched per week. The variance of this dataset is 358.831 which shows that there was a large variance in the dataset. I would describe this data as all-encompassing of the participants in the research. This measure of the variable allows us to see the average amount of time that participants are partaking in this activity. An example of a research question that this variable would help to answer is do more republican or democratic participants have firearms in their home?
