INTRODUCTION

Problem Statement

Kisumu County, Kenya, has the highest occurrence of GBV in Kenya, at 57%

prevalence. Increased exposure to gender- based violence is associated with the time

consuming and essential task of water acquisition for the household. Water scarcity

impacts many households in Kenya and in Kisumu County women spend an average of

112 minutes acquiring water for their homes. Safe access to clean water must be addressed through targeted water projects.

PROJECT GOAL & OBJECTIVES

Goals: Increase safe access to clean water for

women in rural communities in Kisumu county.

Objectives:

1. Reduce average time spent daily by low SES households fetching

water from 112 minutes to 30 minutes per day in Kisumu county

over a five year period.

2. Reduce GBV prevalence occurring during women’s daily water

retrieval in Kisumu County by 15% over a five year period.

3. Increase the percentage of women involved in formal labor in

Kisumu county by 10% in five years.
