Background
Crown Corporations are known as a very important unit of government they include non-departmental organizations and regulating the private sector. These Corporations are headed by Board of directors whom get appointed by the Prime Minister. The job of a Crown Corporation is to serve the public function. They mostly function as private corporations but have more accountability to the government. They have more power with regards to personnel, finance and service provisions.
Crown Corporations have existed for over a century now. Crown Corporations are owned by the state but operate from the government. They were created in order to advance policy objectives and some opearte for business purposes. The government felt that there was a gap I the private sector therefore created Crown Corporations to fill those gaps.

Summary
Why were these Corporations created in the first place?
Crown Corporations have been used as nation building tools this include, resource development, transportation and communication. The idea was to make Canada competitive with the South. They were created to increase diversity and economic development. Major examples of Crown corporations are Canada Post and Via Rail. Canada Post is one of Canada’s largest mailing services and Via Rail is another major transportation service. Canada is divided up into regions with some being less wealthy than others and therefore less economically diversified therefore this is another reason for creating Crown Corporations.
Discussion/Conclusion
If you think about it, there are many area that’s the public sector refuses to go to therefore that is when Crown Corporations step in. Private sector is highly focused on getting profits therefore the government has to take action to consider the health and welfare of communities as well as migrations in depressed regions. Since the government is responsible for Crown Corporations the employees must deal with the government. Therefore the reason we have Crown Corporations is to do what the Private sector won’t do as well as to please the public.
