Design and Planning of PHCs

INTRO & PROBLEM STATEMENT • Presence of the Boko Haram terrorist group in 

Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, northeast  Nigeria

• 4.7 million people in crisis or emergency of food  insecurity

• Anticipated famine to worsen by early annual lean  season

• Major gap exists between the nutritional needs of the  IDP population and the resources and personnel  available to meet those needs

• Children under 2 have the greatest unmet need

We are proposing an intervention to improve the nutritional health status  of internally‐displaced children under 2 years of age in Maiduguri.

PROJECT GOAL & OBJECTIVES Goal Increase the nutritional health status of children under 2 years of 

the IDP population of the Maiduguri metropolitan region. Objectives: 1. Decrease SAM prevalence by reaching at least 50% (currently 10%) of 

the target children with SAM under 2 years in 3 years. 1. Decrease incidence of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in children  under 2 by a relative 45% in 3 years.

2.Increase the percentage of mothers that are exclusively breastfeeding  in the first 6 months of life by 30% in 3 years.

3. Increase in monitoring, detection and treatment of chronic malnutrition  cases in children under 2 by a relative 20% in 3 years.

4. Increase access to food with adequate nutritional content for children  under 2 to an absolute 40% of the target population in 3 years.
