Exam #2 - Chapters 4, 5, and 6
P LEASE READ ALL DIRECTIONS BELOW BEFORE TAKING EXAM SO THAT YOU ARE CLEAR AS TO WHAT IS REQUIRED.
1. Please answer the following questions in a word document due by 6 pm on Sunday, 5/9/2021. MANAGE YOUR TIME AND DO NOT ASK ME FOR LAST MINUTES EXCEPTIONS TO EXTEND THE TIME AND ACCEPT YOUR EXAMS LATE. DEADLINES ARE PART OF COLLEGE AND HAVE TO BE RESPECTED.
2. I will NOT accept late exams. This exam is worth 45 points at 9 points for each question. There are for this exam a total of 5 questions. Those 45 points are 20 percent of your grade in the course. Please make sure that you answer each question in 3-5 full paragraphs, with details, and no errors in spelling and grammar. Refer to the rubric I have posted under modules for the guidelines. You need to answer ALL parts of the questions in an essay format to get full credit for each question. Again, reference the rubric which has been posted under Modules since the beginning of class.
3. I am hoping that you will honor the integrity of the course and NOT Google answers or use open book and open notes for this exam. Your activity will be monitored by canvas as well as me to ensure cheating is not taking place. All the rules and regulations originally stated in the syllabus apply. Once you complete the exam, simply upload your file of the word document or google document that you have, just like you did for the last exam, in the area where the exam was first accessed on canvas.
4. If you are a student with DSPS accommodations, please check your email for a message from me in reference to your special needs for this exam.
5. Please DO NOT email me to make exceptions for you or to bend the rules. This is not only against my policies in the course, but it is highly unethical and unfair to the other students who follow the policies and rules.
Question #1- Based on what we learned about different political ideologies, how would a contemporary liberal view the current crisis we are facing with the COVID-19 outbreak? How would he or she in a position of leadership address health care, economic recovery, and prioritizing the issues that must be addressed during such a serious situation? (9 points)
Question #2 - Based on what we learned about theories of political socialization, apply the transfer theory to yourself. What has that meant to you and please explain how you are in the midst of a transfer phase? (9 points)
Question #3 - Based on what we learned about the media and its influence on the news stories that we are exposed to, why do you think many people still deny science about COVID-19 and the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine, and do not follow government guidelines about the importance of mask wearing, social distancing, and vaccinating? Why are medical experts often times ignored by some politicians? Why do people think that they know more about science than doctors and researchers do? (9 points)
Question #4 - Based on what we learned about motivations for political participation, apply the motivation of political efficacy to yourself. In what ways would you demonstrate your efficacy once the next election comes around in 2024? (9 points) PLEASE GO ON TO PAGE 2 FOR THE NEXT/LAST QUESTION ON THE EXAM
Question #5 - Based on what we learned about conservatism, what role did Edmund Burke play in the codification of conservative principles and how did that impact conservatism in the U.S.? (9 points)
