Problem #1 (worth 15 points)

This is an experiment to study the effect of seven factors at 2-levels on the time to climb a hill by a particular person in a bicycle. Use Minitab or Excel to find significant factors, which influence the time to climb the hill. Show the ANOVA table and a Pareto chart to identify the key factors. Use a confidence interval of 95%. Add two sentences with your conclusions.

Problem #2 (worth 30 points)

A fractional factorial design was conducted on a chemical process to evaluate the effect of 7 process variables which may influence the yield (5) of the process. The list of variable and their levels used in the design are shown below:

The results of the experiment are shown below. The purpose of the experiment is the effect of the parameters on the % yield. Show the ANOVA table and a Pareto chart to identify the key factors. Use a confidence interval of 91% and try it with 95%. This means you will run this experiment first with 91% confidence internal and then you will run the experiment with 95%. Compare results. Add two sentences with your conclusions.

Problem #3 (worth 32 points)

Read the attached article and answer the following questions. Write a minimum of two sentences in each response.

1. Why is injection molding process suitable for DOE?

2. What is the purpose of the DOE in this article?

3. What is the problem identified by the authors?

4. Describe the approach the authors took to solve the problem.

5. Why the authors considered two-way interactions and not three? Define interaction.

6. Comments on the results shown in the Figure 7: two-way interaction plot

7. Describe the process of identifying the optimal design for process conditions

8. What did you learn from the article?
