Instructions

In response to each of the three numbered questions, write an essay consisting exclusively of complete sentences and integrating the following (not necessarily in this order):

   A. An answer to the question, expressed as a thesis:

       (I) Do not repeat the question as a question;        (II) you must take a position: You cannot say “Yes and no”; and

     (III) do not precede the thesis statement with “Yes” or “No”

B. One or more arguments for your thesis

C. At least one explicit, relevant and accurate reference to the assigned reading

 (I) “explicit” means tell me what author or work you are referring to;

  (II) “relevant” means the reference has to have something to do with the question;

  (III) "accurate" does not mean a word-for-word quote, it just means that your reference is not incorrect.

A, B and C  are not sections of the essay, they are elements that must be present in each essay. When you finish you will have written three essays.

Question 1  Must true existence be revealed to the soul through reason ( if at all )?

Question 2  Is a civilized society (state, polis) natural? (I am not referring to all societies)

Question 3

 Is the nature of a thing its end?  (That is, do we know what something is by knowing what it is for?
