You’ve been asked to take over a project started by a co-worker whose Excel skills are not as good as your own. The assignment was to create a sample invoice for an existing client. The invoice will include personnel hours, supplies, and sales tax. Your predecessor started the project, including layout and initial calculations, but she has not made good use of Excel features and has made errors in her calculations. Complete the worksheet by correcting the errors and improving the design. Be prepared to discuss what is wrong with each of the items in the worksheet that you change.

Start Excel, open the file EX 1-4.xlsx from the location where you store your Data Files, then save it as EX 1-Improved Invoice.

There is an error in cell E5: please use the Help feature to find out what is wrong. If you need additional assistance, search Help on overview of formulas.

Correct the error in the formula in cell E5, then copy the corrected formula into cells E6:E7.

Correct the error in the formula in cell E11, then copy the corrected formula into cells E12 and E13.

Cells E8 and E14 also contain incorrect formulas. Cell E8 should contain a formula that calculates the total personnel expense, and cell E14 should calculate the total supplies used.

Cell G17 should contain a formula that adds the Invoice subtotal (total personnel and total supplies).

Cell G18 should calculate the sales tax by multiplying the Subtotal (G17) and the sales tax (cell G18).

Switch to Page Layout view and make the following changes to the Header: Improved Invoice for Week 22 (in the left header box), Client ABC (in the center header box), and your name (in the right header box).

Delete the contents of A1:A2, switch to Normal view, then compare your worksheet to Figure 1-24 .
