The approach described Dr. Leslie can be used to address the issue of dishonesty in the army. This by first of all understanding the motives and the forces that lead to unethical actions.in the dishonesty report about the army, it is evident through the comments of some officers that there is a time frame challenge. There are too many requirements to be met as compared to the time available. This results in telling lies about meeting the requirements. This puts the pressure to the officers as they have an image to protect. Dr. Leslie article can be used to address this problem by applying moral competences. This will not only address the problem but also act as way forward in which such ethical matters should be dealt with.by having the members of the army act as moral agencies; this will help them be able to deal with situations that arise by applying ethical decisions. The issue of dishonesty goes against morals and therefore, the officers can be able to give true and correct information. (Thompson, 2015)
Also the article helps in addressing and acting as a way forward for addressing the issue on the dishonesty in the army stated on the report by encouraging the approach of officers to be ready to face the consequences of the truth by taking moral actions. That means by giving correct information. The article also suggests incorporating ethical audits which can be done annually. For this case, it would help go along in solving the dishonesty issue since it would reveal the ethical gaps that are available and also the underlying cause and possibly developing a solution to the causes. There is correlation of this approach to other theories as it also holds morality at a higher place. It insists on morality of the individuals. (Sekerka, 2012)
Ethically, the information which is required should be recorded in truthful manner and avoid intentional errors. The officers in the army should correctly record the information indicating where they have not met the requirements. Also the recipients of the information should take necessary action since they know the information is not accurate. By ignoring this fact, the culture of dishonesty continues to be internalized and seen as norm in the army. Also the requirements should be reviewed in order to cultivate an environment where officers are not in a pressure to lie. From the top level, necessary actions should be taken to discourage dishonesty. This is by making allocating enough resources to meet the requirements. (Wong & Gerras, 2015)
In genetic testing situation, it’s unethical to disclose the genetic status of an individual without the permission of that individual. If a person undertakes a genetic test for being at risk of an inherited condition, then the results turns and creates a chance that other family members may be at risk. The doctor may want to warn the other family members who might be in risk but also considers the protection of the genetic results of the person which insists should be kept private. Here the interests of the individual to keep the results private are at stake. The dilemma here arises as to whether the doctor should warn the other family members who are at risk by overriding the privacy of the genetic results of the patients or just keep the privacy and let the other family members be unaware of the potential health risk their bear.
