Literature Review
Ethics in the Workplace
Generally, human beings are considered to be rational beings but most of the time in the workplace most employees and the management behave in a manner that violates ethical principles and standards. There are many ethical issues and dilemmas in my organization and the management have made efforts to deal with the ethical issues and challenges. Aryati et al., 2018 suggest that the management of an organization has a responsibility towards ensuring that the deviant behavior is put to a stop. This literature review addresses the ethical issues and challenges in the workplace and also looks at how the issues can be managed through ethical leadership.
Ethical Behavior, core values, and ethical principles.
Ethical behavior is acceptable behavior in the workplace, ethical core values and ethical principles help guide the behavior of the employees in an organization. According to Ayub et al., 2018 the ethical behavior in the workplace is determined by both the set guidelines and the personal characteristics of employees. Schwartz, 2017 talks about the various ethical principles and values. Some of the ethical principles and values discussed that are part of our organizational culture include honesty, respect, concern for others, and accountability.
Unethical behavior in the workplace
There are various behaviors in the workplace which are categorized as morally wrong in accordance with various moral principles. One of the most common unethical behavior is bullying and according to Akella, 2020 this is mostly used by the employees in authority to intimidate other employees through mistreating them and harming them. Most of the times employees in the workplace get themselves in situations where they are torn between doing the right thing and protecting their interests. De Cremer, D., & Moore, 2020 talk about the various ethical issues which include harassment, discrimination, falsifying documents, and information among others.
Role of leadership in ethics in the workplace
Regulations and standards are good but it is the role of good leadership to ensure that the employees in the workplace behave in an ethical manner. Aryati, 2020 that leaders should lead by example through demonstrating strong character to the employees in the workplace. The leaders should be individuals of strong morals and dedicated to the service of others in the organization. Leaders can reinforce moral standards by educating employees on the importance of ethical behavior in the workplace (Ayub et al., 2018)
