Ethical Issues in Police Department
Ethical challenges usually arise in each of the identified criminal justice associated system. There are a variety of ethical issues which are experienced in the police enforcement. The police portray unethical behavior in cases whereby they go against the public that has entrusted them to adequately serve as well as protect them through their roles along with responsibilities in the department of police enforcement (Turvey & Crowder, 2014). Despite the fact that most of the police officers are usually trustworthy as well as loyal and dedicated to serving the people they serve, there are various unethical issues that are usually portrayed by some minorities in the police department.
An example of an unethical issue identified in the police system is corruption. Police corruption is referred to as a type of misconduct as perceived by police officers in duty whereby the law enforcement associated officers usually break up their identified political contact as well as take part in activities that are associated with abuse of their power and position (Miller et al., 2016). Corruption in police departments occurs for personal gains and can involve either one or more police officers. Internal police type of corruption is considered to be a major issue to public associated trust as well as cohesion regarding departmental policies, the aspect of human rights and violations that involve fatal implications.
There are various types of police corruption such as bribery which entails accepting or offering gifts and other benefits in exchange for freedom or a release or access to various data systems. Another form of police corruption is referred to as flouting which entails utility of falsified evidence or related aspects to secure convictions regarding various civilians as well as suspects. An example of a nation that possesses powerful anti-corrupt systems is China which ensures that corrupt activities among police officers are handled efficiently and adequately (Mitchell & Dorian, 2017).
