Definition

An ethical dilemma can best be described as a problem in decision making with regards to the possibility of two moral imperatives, while neither both is preferable or unambiguously accepted. The arising of the complexity is a result of situational conflict whereby the obeying action would lead to the transgression of another (Iqbal, 2018).

Summary

Various sectors are faced with multiple ethical dilemmas. Thus, as established, every single person may have an encounter with the concept of an ethical dilemma in every single aspect of their life from personal, to professional and social life. Ethical dilemmas include an individual being in a position to take credit over work performed by someone else, inside knowledge utilization for personal profit, and the scenario whereby an individual offers a worse product to a client with the objective of gaining own advantage (Garber, 2008.

Ethical dilemmas are more characterized by professional life since they have an occurring frequency at workplaces. Various companies and organizations have an outlined code of conduct of which they adhere to with regards to ethical standards; consequently, the violation of the ethical standards stipulated could spark disciplinary action. Close to every single business and professional aspect could be prone to ethical dilemmas. This includes management, clients, co-workers, and relationships alongside other stakeholder partners. The individual inability to determine the optional solution to a moral dilemma with regards to a professional setting may be subject to extreme consequences for both the organization, individuals, and businesses. This situation usually is common in organizations whereby results are ranked at the top (Lo, 2012).

Discussion

Subject to having taken a closer look at the concept of an ethical dilemma, it raises the question of whether the aspect of ethical dilemma can be avoided or solved to avert extreme consequences. Thus, for organizations, individuals, or businesses to be in a position to engage in solving these ethical dilemmas, they should have the implementation of a strict ethical standard across the board. Each and every single company should be able to present a representation of its concerns with regard to the organization's ethical norms. This can additionally be done through the provision of ethical training to employees by organizations (Garber, 2008.

Various approaches can be undertaken in the solving of ethical dilemmas. The first includes refuting the dilemma through careful analysis of the situation due to the fact that in various cases, there can be logical refuting of the ethical dilemma in existence. Secondly is the application of the value theory approach, which entails making a choice on the alternative that presents lesser evil or the greater good. Finally, it is finding alternative solutions to the ethical dilemma presented through a reconsideration of the problem to check on the possibility of new solutions arising (Iqbal, 2018).
