Introduction.
Workplace assessments are described as the process or activities involved in touring, making observations, and perhaps the analysis of the workplace environment to collect adequate information so that one is able to effectively understand about the setting in which employees work in relations to physical factors around the worksite that either supports the employees hinder their health (Chandrashekar, Moodley, & JainOctober, 2019). It should be understood that the main aim of conducting workplace assessment is to evaluate the safety and physical factors within the workplace or surroundings of an organization so as to ascertain the possible health and safety hazards and risks that could predispose employees to various types of dangers. Additionally, a workplace assessment exercise is conducted as specialized services that will observe, evaluate, record, and provide a report on physical, ergonomic, and environmental requirements of the employees’ duties.
It is good to mention that during workplace assessment, one is able to identify and list several opportunities for employers to establish access and opportunity for their employees to practise healthy behaviours that help their organizations stand out as exemplary conducive working environments (Chandrashekar, Moodley, & JainOctober, 2019). Such positive and health behaviours include the creation of a tobacco-free zone and a corruption-free work environment. Besides that, workplace assessment helps employers establish their position with respect to the legal requirements to build a supportive environment that will enhance effective performance among the employees.
Part 1:
Describe the results of the Work Environment Assessment you completed on your workplace.
Identify two things that surprised you about the results and one idea you believed prior to conducting the Assessment that was confirmed.
Explain what the results of the Assessment suggest about the health and civility of your workplace.
As per the Clark health inventory, touring, evaluation, and analysis of my current workplace produced a report with a score of 54, a figure that indicated that the working place was not a bad place to work if only a few things could be streamlined (Chandrashekar, Moodley, & Jain October 2019). Because I’m working in a home health setting, I can attest that the healthcare organization has been working towards improving the quality of services we provide to home-based patients. Perhaps I was not in any way perplexed with the assessment outcomes since the organization I work with has been working effortlessly to ensure its employees working at home-based care get standard support that facilitates the effectiveness of the services we offer. Nevertheless, I felt that one of the things that made me feel surprised was the different payments received by home-based caregivers compared to hospital-based caregivers, which is primarily based on the number of patients seen and served and procedures conducted.
Secondly, I was also surprised by the shortage of manpower to execute healthcare duties for home-based patients effectively. Healthcare organizations have been challenged with a lack of enough staff to handle various issues affecting the healthcare system, particularly the challenges faced by the healthcare givers at home health settings. One of the things that I feel was confirmed before the assessment is the inadequacy or lack of defined means of communication, collaboration, and coordination among the home health workers in home-based settings (Chandrashekar, Moodley, & JainOctober, 2019). Perhaps the result of the assessment or my workplace indicated that the home healthcare setting is uncivil because some areas within the working environment have experienced increased incidences of criminal activities, increased cases of violent patients, and the inadequate number of home-based caregivers. All combined factors mentioned above hinder the provision of required healthcare services.
Part 2:
Briefly describe the theory or concept presented in the article(s) you selected.
Explain how the theory or concept presented in the article(s) relates to your Work Environment Assessment results.
Explain how your organization could apply the theory highlighted in your selected article(s) to improve organizational health and/or create stronger work teams. Be specific and provide examples.
It should be known that the conceptual model of the Clark, as provided in the week's readings, gave more insights about leadership, collaboration among employees, civility, and incivility aspects that are associated with the workplace environments. The concepts learned to signify the essence of creating awareness of home-based challenges faced by most healthcare givers who work in such environments (Chandrashekar, Moodley, & JainOctober, 2019). Among the difficulties expressed by the article, I selected include leadership challenges, lack of coordination and collaboration among the home-based caregivers. Other challenges include an increased rate of crimes and patient violence that affect the effectiveness of services provided. Perhaps lack of quality leadership and collaboration affects how nurses communicate and share vital health-related information while conducting their daily duties within different settings.
I believe that the concepts presented in the article can be employed in most healthcare workplaces to promote good leadership in the nursing field, more so in-home health setting where some of the healthcare professionals have been assigned to work in. The conceptual model can be deployed to help address the issues of violent patients alongside increased risks associated with criminal activities in some areas, and as well improve communication and collaboration aspects among the nurses to promote the provision of quality services that meet the needs of the home-based patients and the community at large. Healthcare organizations can apply the conceptional model, for example, by rallying for robust interpersonal relationships to maintain unique and exemplary patient satisfactory staff score in every endeavour to ensure that nurses remain compassionate to the care they provide (Ulusoy & Polatkan, 2016).
Part 3:
Recommend at least two strategies supported in the literature that can be implemented to address any shortcomings revealed in your Work Environment Assessment.
Recommend at least two strategies that can be implemented to bolster successful practices revealed in your Work Environment Assessment
Among the strategies that can be deployed to address any shortcomings revealed in my workplace may include implementing a strategy for promoting the health and well-being of all employees (Hargis, 2014). Employees' safety, health, and general well-being play a significant role in executing their daily duties. This gives them the morale to do more to achieve desired results and improve productivity. By making the workplace a good place to work from., employee’s performance will improve, and this will, in turn, help healthcare organization to reduce the number of employee turnouts.
Conclusion.
Conclusively, it can be deduced that workplace assessment provides the most powerful tool for evaluating conditions of the working environment with respect to the employees' safety and satisfaction. The resultant outcomes provide the employers with the most appropriate feedback used to streamline various issues so as comfortable and conducive conditions are provided for effective productivity to be realized (Hargis, 2014).
